  • Meta could merge its VR, AR, and social media ecosystems in the metaverse.
  • Roblox could convince more brands to build virtual worlds within its gaming platform.
  • Both companies have ambitious plans for the metaverse, but Roblox’s simpler approach might make more sense.

Meta Platforms, the corporation formerly known as Facebook, and Roblox, the prominent game creation platform, are two tech companies that are commonly discussed in those debates.

Which company is the more promising metaverse play?

Meta is constructing its metaverse on top of Oculus, its virtual reality company. Since its launch last October, Oculus has sold over ten million Quest 2 headsets globally. Providing Meta with a solid basis on which to launch additional games and non-gaming experiences for the metaverse.

Meta is acquiring popular VR game companies such as Beat Games, Downpour Interactive, and BigBox in order to expand its content.

Horizon Workrooms, a new VR workplace collaboration tool that allows users to conduct virtual meetings with their digital avatars. Meta, a non-gaming company, introduced it just now.

During last quarter’s conference call, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also noted that its new Ray-Ban smartglasses. Which allow users to effortlessly share photographs and videos on its social networks, were off to a “good start.”

These firms won’t be able to replace Meta’s reliance on ads anytime soon on their own. However, in the long run, they may merge, allowing Meta to blend the actual and virtual worlds. Additionally attracting more users.

Roblox has a more straightforward approach. Although its game platform is currently a self-contained metaverse, it is pushing major corporations, such as Nike, to create branded virtual worlds within its ecosystem.

This strategy, which is similar to Epic Games’ massive collaborations with businesses and celebrities in Fortnite, could allow Roblox to diversify its revenue streams away from Robux sales.
