Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway will release for Meta Quest 2 in 2023, which Aardman says will be the “next step” for the pair’s adventures in immersive media after the mobile AR experience ‘The Big Fix Up’, which released last year for iPhone and Android.
In ‘The Grand Getaway’, holidays are in the offing for Wallace and Gromit
Wallace and Gromit are going on vacation in ‘The Grand Getaway.’ Sun, sand, and the opportunity to put their newest invention, Auto-Caddy, to the test. Wallace, on the other hand, has his dates mixed up; they have to be on the opposite side of the country in less than half an hour! It’s only a matter of time before they take the Rocket. However, a control malfunction sends Wallace, Gromit, and Auto-Caddy flying off track.
The Grand Getaway will be a co-production between Aardman and Atlas V
The Grand Getaway, a co-production between Aardman and Atlas V and funded by Meta, will allow users to “move around, explore, and get hands-on (or paws-on!) within the universe of Wallace & Gromit.”
Aardman Animations is an animation studio best known for Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Shawn the Sheep, and other successful animation properties, features, and shorts. Meanwhile, Atlas V is a production company that has worked on animated films as well as immersive VR experiences and storylines like Gloomy Eyes, Battlescar, and Madrid Noir. It will collaborate with studios No Ghost and Albyon on the new Wallace and Gromit experience.
Atlas V made some interesting stylistic choices with how it framed narrative in an immersive medium
There were times where the animated characters were arranged as though they were in the middle of a stage performance, complete with dramatic lighting and backgrounds that resembled a movie set. Fans are excited to see what a Wallace and Gromit collaboration with Aardman will look like, given their history of excellent stylistic presentation. It appears to be a match made in heaven on paper.
