How to Profit from X With Subscriptions and Ad Revenue Sharing

How to Profit from X With Subscriptions and Ad Revenue Sharing

X users now have the option to monetize content by multiple methods, creating increased opportunities for revenue generation. The risk is that multiple revenue generation models may provide cause for confusion.

MetaNews discovers how ordinary users can turn a profit from their X account, either with a subscription or by sharing ad revenues. If you’re planning to monetize your content on the platform this guide should help you to decide which option is best for you.

How to Profit from X With Subscriptions and Ad Revenue Sharing

Subscriptions on X

The first way a person can monetize their X content is by launching a subscription service.

In this revenue generation model, the content creator offers exclusive perks to subscribers. The cost of a subscription can be as low as a dollar per month rising to many hundreds of dollars.

The potential perks of a subscription are varied and include exclusive subscriber-only posts, notifications for subscribers any time a creator drops new exclusive content, subscriber-only audio spaces, subscriber-only replies, and a subscriber badge.

There are minimum requirements to participate. The user must:

  • Have a premium or verified organizations membership
  • Be 18 years of age at minimum
  • Have at least 500 followers
  • Be active on the platform within the past 30 days
  • Have a complete X profile with name, bio, profile picture, and header image
  • An account secured by 2FA
  • Not repeatedly broken X rules
  • Not feature the identity or brand of a third party
  • Have an account that is active and older than three months
  • Have a Stripe account (to receive remuneration)

Of the revenues generated, 97% go to creators after in-app purchase fees are accounted for. If a person earns over $50,000 from their subscriptions the revenue share reduces to 90%.

Ads Revenue Sharing on X

The ads revenue sharing program is another means for creators to receive money from X

Ads revenue sharing entitles users to a share “from verified user’s organic impressions of ads displayed in replies to content” posted on X, said the platform. “This is part of our effort to help people earn a living directly on X.”

To receive revenues from the ads revenue sharing program users must meet a more stringent set of conditions than for the subscription service. For Ads Revenue Sharing users must:

  • Have a premium or verified organizations membership
  • Have accumulated 5 million organic impressions across posts on X within the past three months
  • Have at least 500 followers
  • Have a Stripe account

Once content creators have tied their X account to their Stripe account they can expect payments at a “regular cadence” say X.

How to sign up

To sign up for either service users must first take out a monthly subscription for X.

This costs $11 for U.S. residents and should be roughly similar for customers elsewhere depending on exchange rates.

Once a user’s account is approved, which takes a few days, both revenue-sharing models can be found under monetization.

Monetization options available to the user are tagged with a green “eligible” label, while those that are not are tagged “Not yet eligible” in red.
