When something carries the signature of GOAT footballer Leo Messi, it automatically becomes newsworthy to the legend’s millions of fans. And we’ve received word of something that might shed light on what the superstar is up to apart from his well-publicized move to Inter Miami CF.

We’ve received an exclusive leak from confidential sources. It’s a picture of a large black box with Messi’s signature scrawled on it. What is this object? It could be anything – perhaps a fan memento, perhaps something more.
Black box invitation
But So naturally, we dug further. A scroll through Messi’s social media feeds immediately yielded clues.
“I have been working on something.” – Messi
On Thursday, July 6th Messi posted a 33 second video on his Instagram saying “I have been working on something.” It showed the superstar kicking away a can marked pollution. Later in the video, a billboard in the distance carries the same line as the box — an invitation to Join the PLANET along with a logo. Could the two be linked?
A simple Google search for Join the Planet led us to a project called PLANET — which says it is a global movement harnessing the power of the blockchain to address crucial social and sustainability challenges in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. And — in another link between the box, Messi and the project — the logo briefly shown in Messi’s video corresponds to PLANET’s.
A close-up video that got people asking questions.
At the heart of the PLANET seems to be a merger between celebrities, fandom and technology.
Partnering with GOATs
PLANET says it partners with top-tier celebrities and people who are the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in their fields, using technology and expertise to implement sustainability causes these celebrities want to support. So the celebrity connection is there — indeed, the project has been teasing the presence of multiple “GOATs” since its launch on May 30th 2022.
We continued assembling clues.
While sections of PLANET’s website are still locked, the project’s Medium blog, Telegram and Twitter social media channels yielded substantial information, adding pieces to our puzzle.
Creating Real World Assets (RWAs)
PLANET has been revealing its ecosystem utilities and roadmap through daily updates. Two caught our attention. First, PLANET said in a Medium article that it was creating celebrity-backed Real World Assets (RWAs) — exclusive collectibles offered for limited initial sale to the community in both fiat and crypto.
Is this black box the packaging for the first RWA sighted in the wild? Or could it perhaps be part of another utility —Mystery Boxes with random rewards that PLANET has also announced for its community?
We’ve reached out to the PLANET team for comment, and will update this space.
