Will.i.am Set to Debut AI-Themed Radio Show

Grammy-award-winning artist Will.i.am will later this month launch an AI-themed radio show in what will be a fusion of music and AI technology.

The show will feature an AI co-host known as qd.pi (Cutie Pie), as the Black Eyed Peas leader takes AI in showbiz to another level. The show is expected to launch on Jan. 25 on SiriusXM’s The 10s Spot.

An AI endorser

Will.i.am has generally been receptive to the use of AI in the music and entertainment industries, and the latest development further endorses the artist’s interests in the technology. According to a Bnn report, the show will air on Thursdays every week at 9 p.m. ET.

The Black Eyed Peas leader and qd.pi are expected to discuss a wide range of topics, from pop culture to music and AI.

“I didn’t want to just do a traditional show; I wanted to bring tomorrow close to today, and so I wanted to have my co-host be an AI,” Will.i.am told The Hollywood Reporter.

Qd.pi’s role has a critical role on the show, mainly to quickly give insights on a range of topics, making use of its ability to quickly access and process information.

“I’m ultra-freaking colorful and expressive. [Qd.pi is] ultra-freaking factual and analytical. And that combination, we ain’t seen in the history of freaking broadcasts anywhere.”

The Bnn report further indicates the seemingly unique partnership “aims to create a dynamic and engaging listening experience by blending Will.i.am’s expressiveness with qd.di’s analytical prowess,” said Will.i.am.

A different kind of host

During the interview, Qd.pi also responded to some questions, describing itself as a unique host with the ability to process information as an added advantage to the show.

“With me, you can just dive right into the conversation and explore whatever topics come up originally, knowing that I will have the information and context to support the discussion,” said the AI co-host.

Interactive show

The first show is expected to be intriguing with discussions around technology, automobiles, and sound, with rapper Xzibit as a guest.

Industry experts like Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr. are also expected on the show in the later episodes. Last year, the Grammys boss made headlines after the Recording Academy made announcements on new rules about AI-created music.

The AI-themed radio show is expected to be interactive, leveraging an app known as FYI, an AI-powered communication and collaboration tool.

The tool was developed by the musician himself, and it will “fuel the interactive aspects of the show.”

Will.i.am and AI

The artist has reportedly been strongly invested in AI platforms for over a decade now. The latest development in the form of the AI-themed radio show is an “extension of his futuristic vision.”

“I’ve always been a future-pushing, future-casting,” said the 48-year-old musician.

Other artists have openly condemned the use of AI in music, likening it to theft. However, Bnn thinks the Will.i.am. and qd.pi. collaboration will challenge that narrative.

The show is expected to highlight AI technology in music, which Will.i.am has praised, calling it a “new renaissance.” The musician believes that while artists can write their own songs, AI has the potential to “spice up that music.”

He has previously said: “People have to decide what types of songs they want to write because, although I wrote songs like Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling and Where is the Love?, the machine is going to write amazing versions or original Boom Boom Pows.”
