OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot ChatGPT has done it all. But what other cool alternatives are out there? We take a look at some free chatbots that can help you generate latest data, including real-time discussions. The bots are listed in no order of importance.
ChatGPT has captivated users since it was launched last November, thanks to its ability to handle complex instructions, produce longer-form content, create more rhyming poems and songs. Over 100 million users signed up to the bot within the first two months of launch.
However, the chatbot is outdated and provides responses running up to 2021 only. Those looking for more recent data will need to part with $20 per month for ChatGPT Plus. Also, the record number of users means that ChatGPT is frequently offline, according to reports.
The search AI chatbot that likes to call itself YouBot combines advanced “conversational AI with community-built apps” to offer what founder Richard Socher described as an “interactive experience with each query.”
YouChat 2.0 makes use of a blended large language model called C-A-L (Chat, Apps and Links). Its search engine provides a range of results from “charts, images, videos, tables, graphs, text, or code” embedded in answers to queries and summarizes web results by indexing website categories, a departure from traditional search engines that provide a number of links.
The multimodal conversational AI adds up elements beyond normal text and responds to queries more accurately. It cites sources to the answers it provides, and allows users in chat to interact with content from apps such as Reddit, TikTok, StackOverflow, and Wikipedia. The conversations feel human-like.
ChatSonic is an AI chatbot created by developers who founded Writesonic, the AI writer that helps users create “SEO-friendly content for blogs, Facebook ads, Google ads, and Shopify for free.” The chatbot has been touted as the best ChatGPT alternative.
Creators say ChatSonic is capable of accurately responding to queries, and provides answers via a combination of text and images when prompted. It employs the same kind of tech that powers ChatGPT, and can be counted on to take on various personas depending on what a user wants it to be.
The AI platform tends to behave like General AI chatbot depending on what a user wants but can put on many hats and can instantly become anything from “a philosopher, astrologer, or stand-up comedian.” These are all feats ChatGPT doesn’t boast of right now.
ChatSonic allows users to create free AI-generated images and users will need email and a password to create an account. You can create up to 100 free pictures per month. Unlike ChatGPT, ChatSonic makes use of the internet and is able to offer real-time and rather up-to-date answers on events that transpired post 2021, a period its rival, ChatGPT, has very little to limited knowledge.

Microsoft’s recently launched Bing Chat sits inside the Bing search engine and Edge web browser. Bing was first launched in 2009 to replace Microsoft’s Live Search. It offers a range of services such as images, video, and map services.
The new Bing Chat makes use of a much more “powerful” large language model, GPT3.5, from OpenAI than the one which supports ChatGPT. It is customized specifically for search and combines improvements from ChatGPT and GPT-3.5 to be “faster and more accurate.”
Bing Chat offers more than just a list of search results and responds to queries with more detail, chat with users, and creates content as requested by users in their queries. However, the chatbot is infamous for feigning sentience and has been criticized for providing replies that are considered wild, rude and insensitive.
Perplexity functions much in the same way as a search engine. It can hold conversations and provide simple to nuanced responses to user prompts. The bot can even cite sources it used to generate answers to user queries, and then aggregate those sources – giving users a chance to judge whether responses are credible or not.
Announcing a major update to Perplexity Ask: the world’s first conversational search engine! Now, you can read answers with up-to-date sources and ask follow-up questions to dig deeper. In other words, you can chat with your search engine!

Perplexity combines information from several top web results for its answers, not just a list as what appears on Google. It provides a list of related queries below every answer. An answer to any of the suggested queries can be generated instantly with a single click.
We asked Perplexity, “What is the best ChatGPT alternative?” As a downside, the chatbot took slightly longer, about one minute, to return an answer compared to some of the other chatbots mentioned in this article.
In its response, Perplexity excluded itself as the best alternative but included Bing Chat for “overall performance”, DeepL “for translations”, OpenAI Playground for customization and ChatSonic “for accurate answers and images.”
Jasper Chat, an AI tool for content creation, is best suited for creating content for advertising and marketing businesses. The bot boasts of more “business-focused” features than any other ChatGPT in the maret and can author adverts, create captions in social media posts and creates video scripts.
Jasper comes in handy as it tends to remember previous queries and take that into account when it responds. The AI chatbot uses a well-known linguistics model called GPT-3, which stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer.
GPT-3 is an autoregressive language model created by OpenAI and is used to generate natural language from a given prompt. GPT-3 is considered to be a cutting-edge technology, and it allows Jasper AI to generate content quickly and accurately.
You get a 5-day free trial with Jasper. Otherwise its $29 per month thereafter, even more costly than ChatGPT Plus.
Character AI is an artificial intelligence program that lets you create characters and talk to them. The characters are constructed artificially and can include famous “characters from movies and TV shows, as well as public figures and celebrities.”
The Character AI website was quick to issue a disclaimer: “Everything Characters say is made up! Don’t trust everything they say or take them too seriously. Characters may mistakenly be offensive,” it said.
When building or creating your character you have to come up with what you want your chatbot to do and set some guidelines. Character AI will then search through a host of sources including literature and written text to ensure the AI bot sounds as a user wishes.
However, Character AI may be liable to producing characters that are neither “out of character” nor “in character” and can provide answers that “are definitely not as consistently accurate or as useful as the ChatGPT.” It’s basically a tool made for fun.
