Tech billionaire Elon Musk has once again made headlines with the creation of his new artificial intelligence company, X.AI Corp., reported the WSJ.
This is not the first time the tech mogul has ventured into the world of AI, as he was one of the founders of OpenAI, an organization dedicated to advancing AI in a safe and beneficial manner.
Musk has been vocal about his concerns over the potential dangers of AI and X. AI could be seen as an attempt to mitigate those risks.
With big tech companies investing heavily in AI, it will be interesting to see how X.AI contributes to this rapidly growing field.
Musk’s latest venture into the world of AI, X.AI Corp., has recently been incorporated in Nevada with the Twitter CEO as the only listed director of the company.

Jared Birchall, the director of Musk’s family office, serves as its secretary. The company has authorized the sale of 100 million shares for the privately held corporation.
X.AI Corp. derives its name from Musk’s initiative to create an all-encompassing app called X. It’s worth noting that Twitter, also owned by Musk, recently changed its name to X Corp. and was incorporated in Nevada alongside its parent company, X Holdings Corp.
That incorporation in Nevada may be a strategic move for the company, as the state’s laws provide greater discretion and protection for a company’s management and officers compared to Delaware.
However, despite that company’s founder and sole director Musk has yet to comment on the decision to incorporate in Nevada.
Musk has been vocal about the regulation of AI time and again but has not responded to the WSJ’s request for comment about X.AI.
Response to a former firm?
In late February, as MetaNews previously reported, Musk approached AI experts to form a team for building a chatbot like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Musk plans to launch a new AI venture that would potentially compete with OpenAI, an organization he co-founded in 2015 and left three years later due to disagreements with its management, including differing views on AI safety.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the tech billionaire had even hired AI researcher Igor Babuschkin, a specialist in developing machine-learning models that power companies like ChatGPT.
At the time, Musk had been dropping hints with his continuous tweets stating “Based AI.”
The first time he used the phrase “Based AI” on February 19 in response to an AP news article about Microsoft’s ChatGPT-powered Bing. The comment was posted while numerous news sources touted the possibility of his building a ChatGPT rival.
What is so “concerning”?
Musk has been critical of OpenAI’s decision to implement safeguards that limit ChatGPT’s ability to generate text that could be deemed offensive to users.
OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman left a comment stating “concerning” in response to the WSJ’s news about Musk’s new AI firm, which was followed by a rolling-on-floor-laughing emoji.

Musk responded to Altman with a picture and video that carry a satirical meaning about Altman’s religion.
“Chapel service twice weekly” is written in the top of an icon in which a god-like picture appears and is followed by the words “MAY ALTMAN BE WITH YOU” in the bottom.
The lightning picture is being viewed by the represented character as AI. Similarly, the attached video carries the same interpretation as the robot reads “Altman is with you” and “Free yourself.”
“Stop the Altman religion,” said Kim Dotcom, an entrepreneur, in response to Musk.
Meanwhile, the “concerning” saga is not new between Musk and Altman.
Musk responded by stating “concerning” to Liv Boeree, who retweeted Aaron Sibarium’s tweet about ChatGPT’s response.
