In the latter part of 2022, City Foundry STL will introduce a virtual reality experience to its already extensive lineup of activities. Additionally, Sandbox VR has established itself as “the global leader in free-roam virtual reality experiences.”
Sandbox VR will open its first location in St. Louis at the City Foundry building, which has a total floor space of 4,658 square feet. This location will be Sandbox VR’s first facility in Missouri. The site will have private chambers for virtual reality gaming known as “holodecks,” which will provide access to six different immersive worlds.
The virtual reality experience will be made available to groups of as many as six individuals at a time, with technology affixed to each participant that enables them to communicate with one another in the same manner as if they were actually present in the realms being explored.
Players will be provided with a virtual reality headset, a backpack, a haptic vest, and motion sensors on both their wrists and ankles
“Our expansion model is simple, we select vibrant communities, cities that have a great tech and start-up scene, somewhere that’s near universities, and that’s situated in a meaningful part of the community,” David Friedman, global vice president of real estate for Sandbox VR.
“We are overjoyed to be able to offer residents of St. Louis something they have never experienced before and the opportunity to become a part of this vibrant community.” New + Found was the company that was responsible for orchestrating the plan to move the VR experience into City Foundry.
According to Will Smith, Managing Director at New + Found, this year “is shaping up to be an extraordinary period for growth at City Foundry STL. We are pleased to announce that we have welcomed two new shop businesses, added three new kitchens to The Food Hall at City Foundry STL, and will be hosting two new attractions. It is with great joy that we are able to add Sandbox VR to our first-to-the-region experiences and offer a global leader in virtual reality to those who live in the St. Louis area.”
