NBA legend Michael Jordan is making moves in Web3, including December’s announcement of HEIR, a Solana-based platform that aims to connect professional athletes with their fans. Today, HEIR launched its first NFT collection to bring “founding” users into the upcoming platform.
HEIR’s 6 Rings NFTs are inspired by Jordan’s storied career in the league
Jordan’s storied NBA career, in which he won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s, inspired HEIR’s 6 Rings NFTs. The startup sold 5,005 Solana NFTs on the Magic Eden marketplace for 2.3 SOL ($221) each, paying homage to Jordan’s jersey number.
The company had planned to sell 10,010 NFTs at first, but later announced that it would cut the anticipated NFT supply in half, owing to slower-than-expected sales. Soon after, the project’s limited supply was sold out.
This will provide fans access to special content as well as “Huddles,” or private communities. As a tribute to Jordan’s legendary jersey number, the business sold 5,005 Solana NFTs for 2.3 SOL, or about $221 USD each. They planned to sell 10,010 NFTs at first, but due to lower-than-expected sales, they had to cut the quantity in half.
Heir is a collaborative project between the legendary NBA basketball player and his son Jeffrey Jordan.
The company has yet to specify which athletes will be included on the Solana-powered site, but the team hinted that NBA legends and current players will be engaged in a Twitter Space conducted today. Players from high school to professionals will be included, according to the official HEIR Discord channel.
Michael’s foray into Web3 is not his first. He recently participated in a $46 million USD investment round for Metaplex Foundation and invested in Mythical Games, a crypto game developer.
“The entire HEIR team is ecstatic about the possibilities for NFTs and Web3 to link fans and athletes,” Jeffrey Jordan told Decrypt. “We believe Web3 will provide the foundation for the next generation of consumer entertainment experiences.”
He went on to say, “We seek to change the vision and functioning of digital culture while producing benefits for original cultural creators and early adopters.”
